  3. 03

    Oocyte collection and monetary compensation

After stimulation, the oocytes are retrieved via ultrasound-guided follicle puncture.

How does egg donation work?

  1. Ovulation stimulation

    image

Ovulation stimulation is a key step in becoming a donor. Special certified medications are used during this stage to support optimal follicle growth and egg maturation. Throughout the stimulation process, regular (every 2–3 days) ultrasound monitoring is conducted to evaluate follicle size and development in the ovaries.

  2. Follicular puncture

    image

Follicular puncture (egg retrieval) is a completely painless procedure that follows ovulation stimulation. It ensures the collection of mature eggs from the donor for further use. The procedure is performed under general anesthesia for maximum comfort. Under ultrasound guidance, a doctor retrieves the eggs from the ovaries. The process usually takes about 10–15 minutes, and the donor can typically return home within a few hours.

By becoming an egg donor, you help women who:

  • have no ovaries or whose ovaries do not function properly due to age or illness;
  • cannot conceive and carry a pregnancy due to poor egg quality;
  • risk passing on genetic disorders to their children due to hereditary conditions.

In today’s world, many women undergo a difficult journey of infertility treatment. For them, egg donation is the only chance to experience the miracle of childbirth. Doctors can make the impossible possible by using donor eggs and modern assisted reproductive technologies such as IVF.

As a donor, you will also receive fair compensation, because we deeply value your decision to help future parents around the world. Most importantly, your decision should be well-informed — and once you reach out to us, you won’t have to worry. We take full responsibility for the quality of the medical process. FAQ: Frequently asked questions about egg donation

  • Who needs donor eggs?

The egg donation program is the only option for some women to have their own children. IVF with donor eggs and ovarian stimulation is performed when no medical or surgical method can enable a couple to conceive a healthy child and experience parenthood.

  • How long does the program last?

The program involves a total of 5–6 clinic visits. You will be assigned a coordinator who answers all your questions before and during the program, schedules and reminds you of appointments, advises on test preparation, and provides full informational support.

  • Is egg donation painful?

No. The egg retrieval procedure is performed under short-acting intravenous anesthesia, so the donor feels no pain.

  • How many times can you donate eggs?

In Ukraine, women aged 18–29 may participate in the egg donation program up to eight times. However, there must be at least a three-month break between cycles, and each return depends on the donor’s health status.

  • When can you donate eggs again?

A minimum interval of three months is required between donation cycles for the menstrual cycle to recover. Eligibility to re-enter the program depends individually on age and health condition.

  • Why must breastfeeding be discontinued?

A three-month interval after egg retrieval allows hormonal levels and the menstrual cycle to normalize. Breastfeeding interferes with this recovery, so lactation must end before re-entering the program.

  • What comprehensive examinations are required to participate in the egg donation program?

On the first visit, the donor undergoes a transvaginal ultrasound to assess pelvic organs and ovarian reserve. If findings are satisfactory, she provides blood for a complete blood count; infection and virus screening (HIV, syphilis, hepatitis, TORCH, etc.); and genetic testing (results in 4–5 weeks). During this period, consultations with a psychologist, therapist, and gynecologist are mandatory. Only after completing these steps may she proceed to donation.

  • When can a potential egg donor receive reimbursement?

Reimbursement is provided on the day of egg retrieval, and all transportation-related expenses are covered on the same day.

  • What complications can occur in the egg donation program?

Egg donation is a well-studied area of reproductive medicine. Our doctors—with over 15 years’ experience—use advanced stimulation protocols and certified medications, focusing on prevention. As a result, the incidence of complications in our stimulation programs is virtually zero.

  • Do donors’ unhealthy habits affect the outcomes?

Yes. Smoking, alcohol, and other harmful habits negatively impact ovarian stimulation and reduce the likelihood of a successful egg retrieval.

  • When can one try to conceive after participating in the program?

A donor may plan her own pregnancy as early as the second month after egg retrieval. Within 10–14 days post-procedure, a follow-up visit ensures proper recovery and provides recommendations for future conception.

  • Is the egg donation program harmful to health?

We have a webinar—“How Does Egg Donation Affect My Health?”—available on our blog. Dr. Daria Pokrovenko covers pre-program screening, superovulation stimulation, egg retrieval, recovery, contraception, and pregnancy planning, explaining all health implications.

  • Why does the donation program not accept overweight women?

Both underweight and overweight negatively affect reproductive function and egg quality. Excess body weight is a contraindication for participation.

  • Will my identity remain anonymous?

Yes. We offer full anonymity for all donors.

  • Can I donate eggs if I have no children of my own?

Yes—where permitted by law. For international donors, we offer a “Travel Donation” program.

  • Will I gain weight after donating?

No. Hormonal stimulation protocols used in egg donation do not increase the risk of weight gain.

  • Why can’t one become a donor after age 30?

After 30, egg quality and ovarian reserve decline, raising the risk of chromosomal abnormalities and poor-quality embryos.

  • What is the likelihood of having healthy children?

The probability is very high. Decades of IVF births show that children conceived via IVF are just as healthy as those conceived naturally..

  • Who cannot be an egg donor?

Candidates with a history of heart defects or genetic diseases, harmful habits, or serious past surgeries or illnesses are excluded from donation.
